The Hippo Project: Fairy-Potamus by Jane Cooper

(Artist/ Craftsperson)
I like to work with wire and mixed media.
One day I stumbled upon this piece of writing on the internet and knew I had to include it in an Art Work.

Black Country Muse
No folklore stories should be without it’s Fairies, and we have a few as well. It was told, that when the Church at Walsall was being built, no one asked the fairies for permission, as it was quite near their meeting place, which most of the locals knew about. To show their displeasure, one night, the fairies moved the foundations to a hill nearby, and the builders, fearing further trouble, completed Saint Matthews on the hill where it now is. http://www.blackcountrymuse.com/folklore.htm (paragraph 2)

As a teenager the Hippo was a meeting place for my Punk Rock friends and me to link up, (there were no mobile phones in those days) hence the Steam-punk Hippo.
